Wife's car 1998 Toyota Corolla
My car 1993 Honda Civic
Yep, fuel costs not much of a concern here.... it sure is making me think about my next purchase though!!
Baddawg, how is your daughters little pickup? Does it have the 4 or 5 in it?
Canyon/Colorado, Magnum SXT, CRV, are at the top of my list right now.... anyone had experience with these?

1970's ... yep ... long fuel lines + hot days + no A/C = HELL! man I hope we don't go through that again.
I got 1995 Ford Taurus=26 mpg
Wife's got 2001 Kia Spectra=28 mpg.
Gas Prices in California=$2.43/gal. and rising!
My problem= I drive 120 miles every day round trip for work. I think i'll start looking for a job closer to home.

ive said it before and i'll say it again. if you think our gas problem is bad, just be glad you're not over seas right now. they're at $5-6/gal right now and have been for a while. why do you think you dont see many, if any, SUVs over in europe? And to think, the US is the 2nd highest producer of oil right now, second to saudi arabia. yet we're only 10th in the world in oil reserves and a very distant 10th at that. if we continue pumping like we are now, in less than 10 years we have no more oil in the US besides oil shale which costs a lot more to get oil out of than regular oil.
i'm glad our prices are finally going up, people will stop driving their SUVs every goddamn place they go. you dont need an SUV to take your kid to baseball practice. do what people that have sports cars do. you have your beater 30-40 mpg car and then you have your <20 mpg car. insurance isnt a whole lot more, if any because you dont need full coverage on your beater and overall price drops cause you have two cars vs one.
oh and metal, get one of the various 4 banger trucks. you get space and mpg. my dads ranger got ~30 mpg. sure you dont have your HEMI v8 ****, but who the fk cares, its a truck. wtf you gonna be hauling you need all that extra stuff?

welcome to the days of peak oil! it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better!
there's a lot of things that can be done in the US to curb demand, but it wont happen until it becomes economical to do so.
i was reading an article over at cnnfn, and some expert was talking about how this (oil prices) was just exploratory, to see how high the market can go without breaking. other's were talking that oil will go up until it starts choking economies, so that the growth in demand is checked. peak oil people say we are headed for major world upheaval as oil get's scarce. i think the oil brokers figured out that since they get a percentage, higher prices = a lot more money in their pockets.

I hope you have your daily driver set on your beater cause otherwise your paying ot much for insurance .
as for truck I hope to be able to go duning and someday pull a boat. A truck most likely wont be a daily driver but more of a winter/couple times a week to keeep things alive type thing.

Another result of the oil price rise:
Airlines are already maxed out on credit and won't be able to survive another year of no profits. Rising fuel prices almost guarantee no profits. In fact at least 2 of the airlines will go under within the next 2 years. The remainder don't have the cash to buy out the failing airlines so there are going to be cities losing their air service entirely. As to which airlines, it is hard to know. All of them, except for the disoucnt airlines, are in sad shape.

i say you need a new car my car gets 30mpg .
|
eerrumm, what do you drive?
|
Ford Taurus 1997 with 124,000 miles. my oldsmobille silhouette gets avg of 25mpg with 32,000 miles on that. so even my minivan gets better gas mileage than your car .

LMAO. Ya no offense, but I would never drive any those cars. I knew what I signed up for when I bought my car... of course I went from a Dodge 4x4 Quad Cab Dakota V8 to it, so MPG was pretty much a wash.
That's my point though, if you buy something that doesn't do well on gas, then you are fully aware of the expense or just plain stupid for not paying attention.

Simple for me. I'm moving accross the street from work, live downtown so EVERYTHING is walking distance and so have no need for a car which saves me a ton. Of course I pay a large premium for location and will get hit with all the extra costs for transportation of produce, etc. But I'm glad I never have to fill up the tank, have car payments and pay for auto insurance
