Bad usb port?

Ok my usb mouse quit working. all the lights on it were lit up but the pointer wouldnt move. So I switched to another usb port and it started working again. what would cause a usb port to still provide power for light but not accept input for the pointer?

driver issue?

My old razer diamondback used to do that every now and then. Usually I would just unplug it and plug it back into the same port and it would be o.k....

Static Electricity has been known to screw up USB Ports. If you've grounded out through the mouse, it could cause what you are seeing.

Yeah usually thats what I do but this time it didnt work. I tried shutting off the computer for 1 minute and it still didnt work. my guess is the port is going bad as theres no dust or hair in the port. Oh and erad I can see what you type.....

Go to Device manager and remove the port..then reboot and let it install it again. Try that.

I know that if you "Grimm" your mouse it doesn't work too well and it doesn't have a thing to do with the USB port. Does your mouse appear misshapen, deformed or not quite right. Are there bits rattling around in it, other parts sticking out where they shouldn't or maybe it looks like your mouse is reproducing by fission. These are all signs that your mouse has suffered from "Grimming" and probably should be retired as soon as possible.

When my USB ports are bad, I put them in 'time out' and make them stand in the corner.

Us librul sumbitches don't kill them, like UY suggested.
