Definitely seems os related, but could be a drive issue still. I would have smiley check that drive for you.

that happened to me before but it was becasue my heatsync was loose from my cpu .. I took it off, put new thermal paste on it and it's been fine since. my cpu was overheating by login... just a thought for yooz

if that was the case it "should" have crashed when running Linux. Smiley has the drive now so hopefully it is just something simple.
