Connection problems...

My internet connection went down at home. Called my ISP. "No sir, there are no outages in your area, looks like it's just you. We'll have a tech to you NEXT Monday".

Aaaaaaaaaaaargh.....I'll be scarce around here till then I guess. I'm writing this from work but will not have many opportunities to do so.

Time to finish Far Cry SP and practice BF2 SP!

This also means I have no way to administer the RH server till then, so please see Turf with questions in the mean time.

Dutch, call them back a few times to really make sure! I lost my phone line for 2 days a week ago. I had DSL, but no Dial Tone. The first 2 times I called, they said no outages, and they were going to dispatch a technician in 72 hours. I called back a third time, and the outage was finally posted... there was a main fiber optic phone line cut, and they canceled the technician. Took them 2 days to splice the line 2 miles from my house. DSL runs on a different line, so that is why I still had DSL... Call again to make sure.

I had a phone outage this morning which I finally tracked down to my DirectTV receiver. Seems DTV calls the receiver via the phone every so often (for some clandestine purpose I'm sure) and for some strange reason it locked up. When I picked up the phone you could tell the line was open but I couldn't figure how to hang it up. I finally pulled the plug on the DTV receiver for a couple of minutes and that cleared it right up. Dial tone was back. I know it doesn't matter to most but I thought it was one of those wierd glitches that I could post about and get that 100th post without feeling like I spammed it.

I think it doesn't dial out unless you try to get a pay per view thingee and I'm almost positive that DTV only dials in sometime early in the morning like 2AM. I could be wrong. As far as the connection thing with Unreal goes, you noticed that after I changed out my modem I seemed to be able to at least hit something I was aiming at and didn't disco near as much, just once after the change. I think I bought a weak modem when the other one fried. I've got the idea that for some reason that new modem (USRobotics) had a heat sensitivity problem. When it first connected it was fine but as time went by it struggled more and more to pass the data until it quit. It wouldn't disconnect from my ISP but just stopped transferring data so I'd get disco'd from the server. It would do the same thing when I downloaded files too. Start at about 5kb/s and slowly drop until it was passing no data. Well anyway, if this new old modem doesn't work out I've got two externals that I can use. With the number of cell phones I have in this house, I'm about ready to tell Verizon to keep their landline and spend my 50 bucks on a DTV satellite connection (it has problems with rain storms and heavy overcast though). A little DSL would be nice but I know those cheap bastards will never set it up out here in the wilderness until the population gets sufficiently dense to make it financially feasible. With the way the squatters (sorry if I offend anyone with that term) are moving into the neighborhood, it won't be too long relatively speaking. I'm just not sure I'll be alive to see it.

Sorry for the threadjack Dutchie (then again you'll never know I did it for at least a week...right?)

Hey Dutch, you must be with Verizon! hahaha :P I'm with Verizon and get outages all the time. here is the funny part, I work for a telecom contractor and could fix the darn thing myself, but, punch blocks are located inside a remote hut, locked up! Right now i'm just waiting for FIOS service to come to my area to sign up for that, most all problems will be solved. yeah!

That must be why Spongebob Squarepants and Pokemon won't go away. My youngest son is mesmerized by those shows. If I even hear the noise from those shows I can feel IQ points draining out of my ears and I don't have that many left to lose. I need a disclaimer button so that DTV knows that what info they get is not representative of our household. Other than Law & Order, CSI, and Walker: Texas Goof-Off, I'd never watch the thing. Oh, I forgot Ben Stein and Jeopardy. Those two shows are entertaining. I occasionally watch the G4 channel just because Capt. Immy is on one of the shows.
