Erad I will check but I am not thinking it will work. either way I will try . With that said I found that removing ALL USB devices the computer will boot. Problem is

I dont have a ps/2 keyboard nor mouse
and this computer doesnt have a ps/2 port.

So my only option is to try what you state. BTW this has nothing to do with being amd nor intel (from my readings on the internets lol). It has to do with a registry setting that MS was and still is too stupid to set correctly for people like me. Either way this is an intel cpu not amd.

Either way I found

1) Do you have any USB devices attached to the system? If so unplug from the machine and try to boot into sp3.
2) Boot using a recovery/winpe CD and replace the following files with corresponding files in c:\windows\\$NtServicePackUninstall$
NOTE: Please backup the files you replace to some other location first.

a) c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbport.sys with c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall\usbport.sys.
b) c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbohci.sys with c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall\usbohci.sys.
c) c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbuhci.sys with c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall\usbuhci.sys

which prompted me to remove all usb devices. now I didnt print this stuff till just now so I can take it home and try it. either way not sure if it will work but it is obvious microsoft knows about usb problems. If it works I will let you guys know cause ill be online in the morning if it does lol.

Blong, as you state that the PC has an Intel CPU, DO NOT use the information I posted. That will only work for AMD CPU based systems.

Let us know if you were able to fix it with what you found on the USB issues.

yeah figured that out when I was reading onling to NOT use what you said to do . With that said I thought I was getting to a command prompt in repair mode but I was wrong. I had my USB thumbdrive connected and my winxp OEM disk was seeing the thumbdrive. the winxp disc cant find the hard drives on this dell so I have no way of getting to a command prompt. Dell wants $40 to send me a recovery disc and to "attempt" to help me fix it over the phone. Dell has no "recovery" mode in the system only a test mode. I am hoping that smiley was able to fix my hard drive then I can hopefully install the discs onto my computer and transfer the needed files over that way. If not I have no choice but to basically fork over the $40 to dell to have them try and fix microcraps **** up.

BTW I dont have to work this weekend so if I dont answer its cause I didnt get things working.

looking around it seems microsoft has finally ADMITTED that with intel systems the USB drivers are causing BSOD's but they have been unable to get anyone to send them a .dmp file. Well duh you cant get into windows how can anyone send them a .dmp file. Grrr frustrating this is.
