Sorry to hear that Blong. I thought you had gotten it to boot?

May be a pain but maybe time for a complete reinstall of XP?

Don't give up!

cant reinstal has both computers need a floppy drive to instal windblows and i dont have a floppy drie. I can get hers to the login screen if i remove all usb devices which means my keyboard. This computer doesnt have a ps/2 port. I tried remote desktop and even tried to remote registry to turn on remote desktop and that didnt work either. I could connect with remote registry but couldnt browse to anything. with the computer up I can connect to the sahred folders so I can get all my pictures and stuff off of her computer which is all i need anyways. mine i cant figure out whats wrong. works in linux just fine but wont work in windows for more than a minute. Smiley wasnt able to find anything wrong with the hard drive. If I could figure out norton ghost I did make a backup of windows when I first installed it.

hey blong, sorry about this late, is it still the original hard drive that came with the computer? and have you done a full format on it? normally if the computer does not come with recovery discs now, the computers have a built in recovery partition, to get into it with dell i think you have to hold ctrl and press F11 at bootup, its worth a last ditch effort, dunno if it will help or not. i think its ctl+f11, might work if like i said, it has that recovery partition still in there.

I know this isn't your issue Blong (since you're running Intel(,
but thought I'd share it in this thread:

no I tried that a gazillion times already and even tried every single f key with ctrl and without ctrl. the only ones I found did anything were f3 and f12 and f2 and none did anything I wanted.

Dudio doesnt help my situation. I did, however, find on Dells website you can reorder 1 set of discs for the computer which includes the windows xp media center edition disc to boot the computer. I just bought a floppy drive online (didnt find any stores with one for sale) so I can reinstal windows on my computer but I am afraid I may not get it before the lan party. Cost me all of $7 so its not like it broke my budget lol. I havent given up totally but I am not hopeful to get them both running by the lan. I am, however, thinking of at least bringing our WII and hooking it up to smiley's downstairs tv and then we can get a mario kart game going lol.

was the drive ever formatted after you bought the dell? if so, not even worth trying. but, if you can remote in, then is there a way you can get into explorer and get into the file... should be like c:\dell\utilities\dsr or something. and the file you are looking for is boot_dsr.exe

i cant check on my dell, cause well, my drive is completely formatted already, sorry that i couldnt help more.

Dell installed the software I didnt. We ordered it at dell.com. I have tried to remote desktop but it says I dont have permission (I could have swore I never turned it off) I have also tried remote registry so that I could turn on remote desktop and that was still a no go.
