sigh second computer out
So I went to update wilds computer (its a dell) to sp3. It downloaded updated told me to reboot. So I rebooted. Computer NEVER came back up. Instead I get the BSOD even when trying to load safe mode and even when I try safe mode with command prompt same BSOD. So now I have to call Dell when I can and try and get a repair disk (they never sent me one bastages lol). Either that or figure out how to instal windows without using a floppy drive. Hopefully if I have to a usb thumbdrive will work.
so if anyone has tried to get ahold of wild or I yer gonna have to call lol. I will check this website at work M-F.

XP SP3 has some issues, especially with AMD chips and OEM XP installed systems. It doesn't use the proper CPU dll file to startup. M$ blames it on the OEM vendors . . . heh.

Blong, I had the same problem with 2 of My AMD PCs. Being it is an OEM box, this should work for you: When the system is starting, hit F8, then, you should see an option for "Recovery Console". After selecting it, it should boot to a command promt. Once it does, type and then hit enter: disable intelppm
It should return a few lines of text telling you it disabled it in the boot sequence. Once it does, reboot, and it should boot through to the normal Win XP desktop.

I've done Dell OEM SP3s here at work with no problem, but they are all Intel.

I think Erad should post that into a wiki article, I am sure this is going to come up again.
