new ways of hiring.

well my employer is now making youtube and opening myspace accounts trying to "lure" prospective employees.

Perrigo dances onto YouTube to lure talent - Michigan News, Updates, Photos & Video | Detroit, Lansing - MLive.com

I know the youtube video was posted about 2 weeks ago but we now are in the "news" for it. We are actually bringing in around 80-100 manpower (30 of them are in my plant) here next couple weeks to start training them for our busy season. Most of you know how much OT I already work so it might give you a hint as to how business is doing lol.

anywho I thought it was kinda humorous that all these companies were adding youtube/myspace/facebook to the inaccessable lists and now they are "unbanning" them because they are using those sites to try and employ others.

this is happening all over the place, my employer hasn't done youtube, but has done myspace as well as a few other social sites.

Personally I'd say it's a good thing. When I graduated from college all we had campus interviews and beyond that we could buy newspapers, cold call and send letters. I was interested in places that weren't coming to recruit at MTU so I sent 150-200 letters/resumes out. At one point I had a bale of FOADs from power companies out west (close to good trout fishing). I estimate that of the letters I sent I received zilch from 30%, FOADs from 68% and 2% positive response. Not such a great method for job searching for when you consider all the (beer) money I spent on good paper, stamps and envelopes not to mention all the (beer drinking) time that it took to address all of those!
