OK, 99.9% of the times if something is wrong with a vehicle I am fixing it. Well today, I figured with the nice temp. I would go and change the spark-plugs and wires on my truck. They suggest every 100k miles, well I waited until 113k. I don't remove everything out at once I like to do it one spark-plug and wire at a time. With my Handy book next to me just for ref. I get through the first three with no issues. Then I move over to the other side and started scratching my head. The coil pack for the ignition has a different configuration on the one side for alternating firing. I looked at the book again and looked at how it was hooked up. The dam thing was hooked up wrong but still was able to run properly? I said to my self on a v6 that is not really possible. The offsets shouldn't be that close. Well after cursing and yelling and I even called to get a third party agreement about it being wrong. I crossed my fingers and started up the truck. It sounds almost the same. It ran more or less smooth before but, this was a quieter smoothness. To my surprise I took it for a ride and noticed much better power then before as well as less post/pre ignition that I started experiencing within the last 30k miles. I inspected the plugs and while they were all burning clean they were in much need to be changed.
Now figure this one out. I bought the truck back in 1999 new built from the factory. I had it for almost 7 years and now I find the ignition order was WRONG. What the hell. HEHEH stupid Factory
I guess I have to say I'm lucky that I didn't do any damage to the vehicle. I'm still perplexed that the truck didn't run crapper. Although I did always feel that it felt underpowered but it still always got out of its way.
Oh well just a story to share.
