Latest addition to my RC Hangar

This is what is called an Old Timer. It's a Deweyville Special kitted by Orline back in the 60's or 70's. This isn't a scale model, it's just a kit designed for RC flying. It sports a parasol type wing. This one is boring to most modern RC enthusiasts, but this is my kind of plane........it's big and slow. (I'm and Old Timer too!!!)

If you ever look at the plane pictures in an RC Airplane Magazine, usually the bigger the plane, the older the guy standing next to it.

I didn't build this one. I found it at an RC swap meet in Kalamazoo, so I guess you could call it a recycled plane. If it survives the (my) maiden flight with it, I will enjoy many, many hours of flying this one. The best time is when the winds are low early in the morning just after sunrise, or just before dusk.

Wing Span is 74". Engine is an OS FL70 Four-stroke glow engine.

Thanks Blong & Wild.

The little pilot isn't glued in real well anymore, so he jiggles around funny when the engine is running and vibrating.

Very awesome G Man. I always wanted to get into such a hobby since I was very young, I've had a few cousins with such things, but nothing ever close to what you got. Very impressive and very cool.

Another nice one for the collection!

You must have a special shed or garage for all your planes?

The unfinished basement in my old farmhouse is completely decorated from floor to ceiling with wings and fuselages. Beats drywall and paint.

Cool plane, I'll bet those wooden props are not cheap. What are the two hoses connected to the muffler?

Thanks Smiley.

The smaller wood props like this one are only about $6.00. This is a 14x5.
14" in length 5" Pitch=one revolution moves prop forward 5", like a screw.
Both the wood and composite props start to get expensive when they get to 16" length or greater. The most expensive props are the carbon fiber.

The two silicone lines going to the silencer/muffler are pink/red for fuel tank pressuration which gives better fuel delivery to the carb., and the other yellow is a tap back into the crankcase, which helps scavange excess oil out and provide pressure equalization for a more consistent fuel mixture whether the fuel tank is full or near empty.

There is one blue line you can't see inside the cowl that delivers fuel to the carburetor. This fuel line to the carb has a section of fuel line attached to a weighted clunk inside the tank so that fuel is delivered to the engine no matter what the plane orentation is.

There is another fuel line to the tank that sticks out the left side of the cowl which is for fueling/defueling. This also has a piece of tubing and a clunk inside the tank so when you defuel the plane, all the fuel gets sucked out.
