I hope this doesnt come true for the us of a

Cause I see lots of accidents caused because someone couldnt do something because the government did this

Motorcycle and Car Speed-limiter is unveiled
August 14, 2006 - Times Online - driving.timesonline.co.uk

A new government-backed system that would force vehicles to observe speed limits using an engine limiter is set to create controversy.

The Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) device includes GPS and mapping to identify speed limits in any location. Last week it was demonstrated how it would work on motorcycles.

Riders will hear two warning beeps if they stray over the limit. When they reach 5mph over the limit their seat will vibrate. If they don’t slow down the system will retard the throttle to slow the motorcycle down until it is at or below the speed limit.

The system can also be used in cars and there is speculation the system is the first step in government plans to force car makers to fit variable limiters. It was developed at the Motor Industry Research Association with funding from the Department for Transport.

Motoring organisations have warned that the system could hinder drivers trying to accelerate out of danger. A DfT spokesman said there were no plans to make the device compulsory in the UK.
what happens if you have to accelerate to get out of danger and you go over the speed limit like 15mph? What happens if you are going around a curve that is downhill and you happen to go 5mph over and it auto throttles you down causing you to lowside? imo I think this is a bad idea for motorcycles. Cars and especially semi's I can see but bikes? The way I see it thats just dangerous.

This would take all the fun out of driving. I mean, it'd be great for local roads, but a lot of times on highways you can safely go over the speed limit. Just look at the PA turnpike: it's relatively straight and when there's little traffic there's no big deal. There are hardly even any cops on the road. Now, I'm not saying that I speed all the time (or a whole lot when I do) or that it's entirely safe, but I don't think automatic speed reducers are necessary

That would kill the sales of sports cars.

I know I would have gotten rid of the RX8 or never even purchased it if something like this existed.

However, I highly doubt something like this will come into play in the near future. It requires all existing cars to be retrofitted, which couldn't be enforced.

Ehh, they could grand father it in. It'd take for ev er to do that, but still it could be done.

Frankly, I think there's little need for cars but on Semi's and other such hauling vehicles I think it would be a very good thing actually.

you could continue driving your vehicle for years, limited free, what's the point then.

By semi's I hope you mean to speed them up.

by semi's I mean slow them down. There are many many many times I am doing 80mph down a freeway/highway and am getting passed by a semi. That is very scary imo. Cars I could care less if they had them on a vehicle or not. Its motorcycles that I think absolutely should not have them on as it poses a safety hazard for motorcyclists.

45? Wow, I wish they'd go that speed here. I've never come across one that wasnt be agressive and running 80, 90 down a hill. Add to the fact that I think the ratio on I-70 here is at least 4 Semi's to 1 car and you get boxed in by a number of them all trying to race each other and its one of the scariest things I've ever experienced.

Try getting off an exit ramp with a semi behind you that doesn't want to slow down and see how scared you are then
