This Old Farts New Car
Well, I had a breakdown this weekend and decided to celebrate hitting the 40's by buying a new car. I really had no intention but the deal was so good, it was a hard one to pass up.
Getting this car, I had one of the weirdest experiences.
I decided to get a 2006 as they were discounting them heavily, the only reason I did this. But the choices were limited and they didn't have my color. So they checked their computer for other dealers trying to see if they could trade for one. They were warning me it didn't look to good but after awhile they secured one with all the options I wanted. So now I am getting ready to do the paperwork.
As I start the sales rep gets called away and a few minutes later he has a look of horror on his face. It seems this car with 1.2 miles got hit being pulled into the other dealers garage and the front bumper, head light were smashed. Ugh, deal over. The sales manager comes up agologizing and says, we feel aweful, I am going to try the one other dealer who has the car you want and see if he will trade with us. After 15 minutes, I tell the rep. I am going home, call me if you can find one. I was pretty much sure the deal was dead in the water. As I walk out the sales manager calls out, we got it. Deal done. Phew.
So I got an Acura RL (Sport Sedan)
V6 3.5L 290hp 0-60 in 6.2 seconds (hey I am old fart)
and yes, for those who attended the OF Lan party a last year, it has a Navigation system and we all know what happend at the OF Lan party. Yeah yeah yeah, I know, we drove down a one way street the opposite way but damnit, did I not get us to the hotel. :P
I won't take delivery till Thursday so here is a brochure pic.
Interior shot.
Rear shot;
For some of you youngins, probably a little conservative but hey, I am an old fart. I'll post pictures once I take possession of it.

Thanks LoPo
Not as sexy as your RX-8. Did I hear correctly, there is a super charged version coming out for it. I also hear of a possible engire recall. One of the guys are work with is hoping he can swing a deal for a super charger upgrade if his is recalled.
LoPo, are you really in Sparks? If so, we should catch up as I go to Tahoe every year for vacation.

There has been talk of a supercharger since I bought mine back in the summer of 2003. Last I checked, they have a working production. If anything it will be a mazada speed version and not a straight forward upgrade to a reg or GT RX8.
There are tons of turbo chargers out for it, tell your coworker to turbo it and then wait for the engine to die. There were several recalls, one of which was engine related(heat) that only affected early production. I haven't heard of anything recently, but then again I haven't been following them too much recently.
Yup, I moved here this past April. My house will be done in 3 weeks. Let me know when you're in town and we can get together.... there's some fellow llama's by my sister's house... no joke... perhaps relatives of yours?
Anyways, sweet car. Did you consider any of the Infiniti's? like the M series... although you had a MDX before this right?

I looked at the M series but I am not a big fan of Nissan nor Infiniti. Great engines no doubt, spotty quality.
I looked harder at a Lexus GS350 but they are asking way to much, not discounting 52K and has smaller passenger space then the RL. Slightly faster engine 0-60 5.7 seconds.
I am not a big Euro fan so I took a vague look at a 5 Series BMW and even an E-Series Mercedes but came away unimpressed.
I thought the RL offered this biggest bang for the buck. This is my 3rd Acura (TL, MDX, RL) and I have been very pleased with their quality, reliability and resale value. The RL is kind of the unknwon car in the Acura line because of high price 50K but they dropped the price 9K off sticker, and the body style went from attracting the over 50 crowd to under 50 crowd. I read an atricle on it and they say it's the hidden gem of Acura, buried by the popularity of the MDX and TL. BTW, the new RL is 4WD.
Yup had an MDX, great vehicle, having nothing bad to say about it and it held it's value well. Bought for 36K a couple of years back, got over 28K trade value. I hate the looks of the New 2007 MDX. Blah.
Congrats on the new house. Pics, we want to see pics of the new house. Quite a move from S. Cal to Sparks NV. I hope you have a second vehicle for the winter or good set of winter tires. RX8 and snow don't seem to be a real good fit. BTW, you m0m0, I was going to try to call you as I will be in San Diego in december for a tradeshow.

lol... I don't have the RX8 anymore. I have a Nissan Xterra( http://www.fragonsight.com/viewtopic.php?t=2097 ) I got it a year ago next week. I guess you could have said I was planning my Cali exit at that time.
The M got best luxury sports sedan. Infiniti has gotten a bad wrap because of problems with the QX56 Armada based SUV.
But the RL has gotten rave reviews! I like the RL much like I like the TL. I know a number of people with the TL and absolutely love it.
Glad to hear you didn't go Mercedes or BMW... I would have really made fun of you.
I'll be in LA the first weekend of Dec for the LA Autoshow... if you're around, come up to the show. We go on Sunday morning.

The moon roof is standard, no option on that.

Xterra huh, 1813 has one, when he gave me a ride in it, I thought it was great.
Have you seen the new TL Type - S, man it's a screamer. Has the RL engine but is only FWD (unlike RL's AWD) and is much lighter. I think it can do 0-60 in under 5.7 seconds which is scary. Now that is a rice burner.
This car has to have a huge user manul, it's got gadgets galore.
The car has some cool features…
Voice activate Navigation
Satellite link to traffic/accident with rerouting
Satellite link to Acura service that can monitor car performance
Dolby 5.1 10 speaker sound system with 6 disc in dash
Steering adjusted headlights
Keyless ignition and entry
Auto window shades for back and rear windows
XMS Radio
Blue tooth integration for Cell Phone to calls speaker system
Voice activated auto dialing via Blue Tooth and Cell Phone
Auto adjustable side mirrors
Run flat tires
Auto breaking
Laser controlled cruise control
Power controlled AWD adjust system
