Blong, reread what I said "the ford" not "a ford".

I wasn't bashing ford, I was simply replying to cheese's question.

I'd have to go with LoPo and Smiley on this one. The Toyota or the XTerra. The only problem with the Xterra is LoPo and 1813 drives them. ASk yourself Cheese, do you really want to get grouped with those old bastages?!?

The only problem with both is that they hold their values pretty good so I am not sure what condition it will be in for your price range.

Cheese here are some ued car values off MSN Auto for a quick glance:

lol imp. we had a guy that drove a forester in the car club here at tech(or was the subar wagon thing, i cant remember), but we called it the dyke wagon every chance we could.

but after a lengthy discussion with my dad last night i think i have changed gears a bit to just kinda wait it out and hopefully make it through the summer and keep an eye out for any good deals on a small/fun/nice car that i'd enjoy driving. i figured that if something happens to my car i can get it towed back to my place for at most $300, which is cheaper than expenses with an suv (trailer + insurance + gas + the fact i wouldnt enjoy driving it to/from work + etc etc etc). if i end up wrecking beyond repair then i part it out and eat the cost of the car and i just drive my nice/fun daily until i get out into the real world and making enough to support my addiction again. i'm hoping it's unlikely that i'll wreck it that bad though, lol. i'd rather not eat the cost of the car...thanks for the input guys, i probably would have gone with the runner

I would not trust any list. You need to look at all the makes an models and make your own decision that is not influenced by money. I have a TrailBlazer and it has been a very reliable vehicle and I have had no problems with it. I have owned American made autos all my life and don't see all the things they so called experts see as problems. Right now the trend it to buy the foreign brands. But in my opinion they have the same problems as the American brands. It all comes down to demand, right now the foreign brands are in demand so they make the top of the list. I have seen just as many of the vehicles on the best list as the worst list parked in the brake down lane. You look at the vehicles and find the features YOU want and get one that has been well maintained and no matter where it is on the "list" you will be happy with it and it will last you a long time as long as you take care of it. Those list are only good for one thing and that is at the conclusion of a bathroom visit just before you flush

Yeah you have to take Consumer Reports with a grain of salt sometimes. They seem to have a high bias towards the Asian cars as evident by the top SUVs and trucks. All top vehicles are Japanese?!?

It's a never ending debate of "don't get the those they suc" or "these are the best"

In my 35 years of driving I've gotten cherries, and lemons from all the makers.

I would get what I like and take my chances. Or maybe narrow down to a few and then research them more.
