rear tires wear more than front????
What would cause the rear wheels to ware out more than the front wheels on a front wheel drive vehicle? I ask because I have never rotated the tires on my van and was going to do it today but the rear wheels are worn down double what the front wheels are.

Did you get the rear end aligned when you got the new tires?

That's a good thought G. Here's another...perhaps it's from hard braking. They're probably the tires that do most of the slowing down as the front ones are doing all of the going if you catch my drift.

Are you sure the outside edges and the center of the tires are worn evenly? Or is there actually more tread in the center . . .

I think Barney may have hit on it. Have someone drive the van slowly on loose gravel, and then step on the brakes while you are walking beside it. See if the rear tires are braking first.

thats what I was thinking was happening but not sure and not sure why that would happen since its front wheel drive. I havent replaced the rear brakes ever on this van yet but twice on the front so far.
Smiley yes its worn the same all the way across.

I had a chrysler front wheel drive mini van that was doing just that, since I rotate my tires every 6000 miles, the only way I knew it was happening was because of a brake self adjusting problem, my rear brakes were wearing out faster than they should, but I never paid any attention to tire wear. If you rear brakes are taking the braking load excessively, it should be accompanied by excessive brake wear also.
