My SEXY, HOT, NEW RIDE....

Heh...I guess it's all a matter of perspective....

They say when we come into the world we are wrapped in diapers.
When we leave this world we are wrapped in diapers.

Our first bike is usually a tricycle
Our last bike is often a tricycle

I have just about come full circle....at least with the tricycle bit

I have been having a great time on the rail trails riding this one.

So you may ask why would you buy one of these??

#1 - I won't be seeing my urologist every week...if you get my drift
#2 - It's pretty hard to fall off of this one...

This is a Recumbent Terratryke Tour Model made by WizWheelz here in Kentwood Michigan.
TerraTrike Recumbent Trikes by WizWheelz
20" Tires, disk brakes
I got the wide range option which gives you 27 gears. 3 Sprockets in front, 9 on Derailleur (sp) in rear.
High Gear has 90 gear inches = I crank of pedals = 90" tire roll distance.
In the flat, like a rail trail, you can do about 14 mph sustained iin high gear if your legs are in good shape. Not as good as the 2 wheelers. For another 500 bucks, you can put on a speed gear option that will give you a high gear of 130 gear inches, so you could roll pretty fast.
You have to be careful you don't move your body or legs alot, since at high speed it is a little twitchy since the steering is so sensitive.
This thing only weighs 37 pounds.
I got the better grade Schwalbe tires (100 psi instead of 40 psi) so rolls much better.
The cost, yeah they are really overpriced. I paid about $2,200.00 with a couple extra options.
The price range in the industry for these trike recumbents range from about $1000.00 for one made by Sun (60 lbs though), or a Hase, which can run over $4,000.00, so I bought one in the mid range. Weight is important, and it seems the lighter models cost more.

If you are a gearhead, and getting out on the road, and blazing at high average speeds, this is not the bike for you. But for cruising the trails, this is great for exercise and fun. Even with the gearing I bought, the wife and I average about 12mph on our rides, that include stops at crossroads, so we aren't just poking along.

There is a rig for the rear wheel that I will be buying that basically turns this into an exercise bike for indoors this winter.

I am rambling, so this is probably too much information. If you are interested, check out their web site given above.

The choice issues for me were. (Old Man Choices)
I can't tolerate sitting on any kind of bike seat upright and pedal for any length of time, because of prostate problems. (Yeah, I'm an Old Fart)
I have bulged disks on L4 and L5, and the recumbent seat arrangement prevents back and sciatic pain.
I have arthritis in my right hip, and peddaling at this angle is comfortable, and I can sustain it for long periods.
I damaged my shoulder in a very bad fall years ago, and I can't risk an injury from falling off a bike. (I recently gave up rollerblading, because a bad fall injured my soulder slightly again & I can't risk that anymore)
Also on a regular bike, my bad shoulder gets real sore just hanging on to conventional handlebars. As you can see in the picture the "handlebars" on the trike are down low, and grabbing on to them doesn't bother my shoulder at all.

I have a flag that waves up high, but you're right, visibility is a problem. I don't ever intend to ride it on the regular streets with car traffic. We have some great paved rail trails in our area, and those are safe and fun.

Heh..I have a great urologist!! but the last urinary tract resistant infection I had cost me & my insurance company over $3,000.00).
