AMD's new 4x4.....yum..games need to go multithreaded NOW

http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/06/01/am...p_cpu_sockets/

I'd consider this and buy another X2 4400+ once games go multithreaded.

Uhh, AM2 Lopo, you'd have to get rid of that current S939 chip you have.

Entirely pointless right now, its AMD's effort in order to move the mindset away from Intel's Conroe.

Yea I realize that. I misread it. Still though....

Pointless right now, yes, however in 2007+ it won't be.

We'll be thinking more along the lines of quad core then.

The useful of it is almost completely server related, IMO. It allows for co-processors to have direct access to the hypertransport bus, which is nice. From my understanding it could allow much cheaper specilization computers to be built using standard components.

Oh, and 4 cores for a system, or 8 cores when multithreaded games are really getting to a useful point.

I'm more interested in Intel's Conroe, and the rumors of AMD buying out ATi (doubtful, but it sure did boost ATi's stock with just rumors).

I doubt it, that's what the opteron is for.

Yes, I don't doubt conroe will be a huge success.

The use of this could easily spread over to Opteron, I'm rather confused why AMD didnt release it as a server platform, its usefulness as a gaming platform is very small right now. While as a server design it has lots of advantages.

By the time it becomes useful quad core will be here, its just very economical right now since basically no comsumer applicatiosn that need high end processors (games) are very multithreaded.

I wouldnt bet on Conroe not being succesful. The "Core" architecture is very good.

eeh... consumers do more demanding tasks than gaming. Very few if any games consume 100% of the CPU now and they are single threaded.

What about Photoshop, video encoding, or 3D animations? Yes people do that one their 'consumer' machines, granted they may be a minority, there still is a market for this technology outside of gaming/'virtual muscle flexing of my system is more power than yours'.

Uhm, guys, Torrenza is being developed for servers to help in putting VM's into hardware instead of a Software layer... I can't officially say this... but, MAYBE I HAVE Already seen it in testing....
