Q6700

is it really worth twice the $$$ as a Q6600?

I'm planning for my Christmas present.

Double the price? Not in my book. I love my Q6600.

yeah. newegg has a q6600 for $280 & a Q6700 for $550. All I could see was it was clocked about .25 faster. 2.4 vs. 2.66

Not even close, as performance increases over a certain bubble prices increase like crazy. This is one of those cases. The Q6600 is a really great deal though, highly recommended.

Save yer $$$ for the ultra (dunno I am just guessing bout the video card lol). Honestly the rule of thumb my great wise father told me is look for where the biggest price jump is and buy the cheaper of the 2 processors. In this case it would be the 6600 because you wont notice much of a difference for the cost difference. meaning the cost difference doesnt match the performance boost.

No, the Q6700 is barely faster. I mean that for the last 5% of performance you pay 2x the amount of money. Also, I'm doubtful this December the 8800Ultra will be so hot of a purchase, could see new Nvidia card's very soon on the horizon.
