why is disable smilies ON by default? can you turn it off by default?

It is set to on by default, but there was a bug that messed things up a bit. Making sure it is set to on in your profile is the easiest way to set it.

If I get time I will run an update on the DB to change them all to yes.

hmm yoru weird then cause i dont have Disable smilies every checked when i click post reply. then again I use the smiley codes I like and I do a quick reply so I dont worry about that anyways. either way you have something wrong with yoru browser did you try clearing your cache and cookies?

Go into your profile and change Always enable Smilies: to no and then save, then go back and change it to yes. This will force the database to update.
