Question about vent....
Ok so we use the older version... Whats the cost to upgrade? is it a fixed price or subscription?

There is not cost to upgrade, the cost has to do with the server side of things. I know for the Se7en vent we pay $8 a month for 20 slots, but I guess that depends on the server provider. I have no clue what it'd cost to run a server of your own though.

You're really not missing much other than compatibility issues with most servers out there. I have no clue on the legal status though.

Mac thats why the of vent is the older version. we dont want to pay a monthly fee to keep it up. It seems like you also have to buy it from a trusted partner???? I could be wrong on that. www.ventrilo.com

k here is some quick info

Server 2.3 - Public version:

The public version of the Ventrilo 2.3 server can be used without a license fee, so long as you abide by the terms of the LICENSE. Each of the public servers contains a file named LICENSE and by downloading and running the server you are agreeing to the terms of this license.

other than that I dont honestly know why we cant upgrade. I thought it had to do with the free version only allows 8 connections??

The public version still only allows 8 slots. If you want more then you must purchase from a reseller.

heh, I was just curious about what the deal was.. I went and looked at the site and said wait it sez 2.3 is free... then I saw the issue about only up to 8 people. OK then two free servers 8 people 16 total....

I still use the older free version that has unlimited client connections. There really is nothing much better in the new version - they only came out with it so they could limit the free version connections.
