Why php for a forum?
Just seems like Vbulletin is by far the most popular software for a forum?

PHPHBB is WIDELY used. There is a huge following and mod community(like a game).

PHPBB is free where you have to license vBulletin.

And if I remember right, PHP is a lot easier to modify. Or at least it was for me, and trust me I may be a lot of things but a programer sure as heck aint one of em!!
