Hmm, well I've put about an hour into it so far and I'm not so impressed. The biggest issue right now is that the net code is simply horrible. For a game world so empty (the visuals are poor IMO, BF2 looks better in a lot of instances) you would think its not so difficult. BF2 managed a lot better with double the players. But alas I guess this is what beta are for. I simply don't see them meeting a close release date with a solid working game though. It was simply so laggy and that hurts a lot of other areas. My frame rate would be extremely solid and then lag would hit and it went down hill. Typical Carmack engine though, the game certainly has the "Doom 3 look" to it. We'll see though, I really hope they pull it together on the net code front.

I am with ya Chem, you sum up what I have read... I hope they pull it together, but I think my hope will be short lived, crysis isn't too far after and that will be solid I am betting.

Can I have a beta key so I can decide if I should refund my pre-order or put it towards Crysis or COD4 ?

Sent you a PM.
I'm also really looking forward to see how the COD4 multiplayer pans out. Also Crysis, I recently saw a video of some multiplayer fun. It features a tornado in it! You could go to this and it'd suck you up, throw you around and kill you! It was awesome looking as well!

lol, there's a reason things are called 'beta' and not 'retail demo'. you shouldnt base your decision off of a beta. this is why most companies dont release anything till it's done. people don't realize this and base their decisions off of shitty code

The expected launch date for this game is about one month away. If one of the core functions of your engine is screwed up this late, then you have major issues. The net code and its ability to provide a playable game is probably up there with actually being to render the scene. Quake Wars has a max of 32 players, on basically empty maps besides the vehicles and players. There is no reason it should be this bad, this close to deadline. I'm perfectly willing to give them leeway on relatively minor details but one of the core functions being this bad is a joke. Even on servers pinging around 60ms were very bad at times. Somethings not right, and considering the large amount of delays Quake Wars has experienced its not that surprising. If you've got a month to deliver something years in the making and you have not finished or are very close to finishing so vital then you have problems.

It's just BF2... cept with a Quake theme. I'm not that impressed and think I may go move my preorder dollars to COD4.
EDIT: This was my 3,000th post, yay me.

and did they release updates to this beta version or did they release it once, a month or so ago (which really means they had to have most of the code ready months before that). just saying, basing stuff off a beta version is completely unfounded.
as for me, i'm probably going to play wow and some css until Spore comes out...
