Ok, I surfed id tech forums last night. I ran the proggy to see if I coudl connect to servers, and I could. The problem seems to be in the game itself, when I hit the paly online button, nothing happens, mouse freezes, and that is it.
Result same everytime. AntiV on off firewall on off, etc. Anyone?

Seems odd, haven't had any problems with freezing. So you don't even get a server list?

The server browser does not even open...the game just hangs when I click the play online button. Mouse..everything freezes. I have a post on their forums...not much luck there either.
edit*I do get a microsoft message that says..etqw has stopped working....almost instantly after pressing the play online button.

Not sure what to tell you, maybe reinstall the game?

make sure you've got the latest vid drivers. i know ati had an update specifically when the demo was released.
i run the game on vista and haven't had any problems.
you may already know this, and it may not help this particular problem, but it will help overall gaming performance on vista: right click your ET:QW shortcut and choose properties. Go to the Compatability tab and in the Settings section, check the Disable desktop composition, and press OK. This will disable the 3D rendering of the desktop while the game is running. Vista aware games should be doing this on their own, but for games that don't, you can force it yourself.

while it may be the problem, i do know the game is capable of running in vista. both beta 2 and the demo never gave me any problems, but my laptop has an ati card. i don't have any experience with nvidia cards in vista.
