Welcome to FoS - A not so short post

Greets all!

I decided to take a minute from working on the board to chime in and answer some of the questions that have popped up a couple of times and to let you all know my intentions, and weigh in on the drama that happened over at nachos.

A bit of history:
[FoS] was not always Frag On Sight, in the way back it began as Full of Soul, I started the clan with a guy named FulloFull or something like that, my memory is not so good anymore. It was a bad name and we knew it, people would ask what FoS stood for and we just wouldn't tell them. At some point we decided to come up with a new name, and the 2 most popular seemed to be Frag on Sight and F*** off Soul. I thought Frag on Sight worked better . So we ran with it, after Q3/ACTF was over, so was FoS for the most part, the site stayed up and myself and a few others would wear the tags in a few games here and there, but there wasn't much going on with it, just idle, waiting for that next game to come that would bring back the online play that we all missed. (btw, I hope that happens at some point) That is enough back story on FoS, I just bored myself reading that so I am sure that you are bored as well, let's move on...

Not to long ago:
I was asked if I could provide a space to host some forums. Not a problem, have the sever, the space, why not? Was just going to be a small site tucked in the back of many others. Everyone thought the name frag on sight was ok, it was more or less free after all (well mostly it was paid up and available) so the redesign of the site happened. At some point word got around and apparently back to Saint over at nachos that this was happening, not sure when, who or how and it doesn't really matter. But that news coupled with other activities that had been happening on nachos lead him to believe that there was a mutiny happening (I assure it was not), and he shut down nachos. The need to make this site into more than it was ever intended to be was apparent, people wanted some place to go. So we got to work, and so far we have gotten quite a bit done in a short amount of time. I am very pleased with the overall progress the board as made. It hasn't been a week and we are going to hit 3000 posts, we already have over 100 members! Thanks to all of you for making the launch go so well and for baring with me while working on the board.

[Drama]:
I had been at nachos since 99' and was anything but a heavy poster. I was just starting to close in on 1000 posts when things got crazy. Around the time I started at nachos back in 99' there was another shutdown, we ended up having a huge IRC meeting and Saint re-opened the board, I don't recall what it was about, but whatever it was, it had been overcome and I was glad, I was really getting into the place. Things have been quiet for the most part the last couple of years, seems that nachos has been less about gaming and more about other things. Politics & Government seemed to have people in an up roar most of the time, and beyond that the most common posts were to do with AOA/KOTS. I was a fairly avid reader of the P&G forum, didn't post much, but found it an interesting place to read the opinions of others, but often times it degraded from discussion to a battle. I think that forum is where things really went wrong.

Now I won't go into who said/did what and since I wasn't part of it, it isn't really any of my business. I can guarantee you one thing, Dbabe is in no way responsible for the opening of this site, she has no privileges here other than a user like 98% of the other members. She was invited here the same as many others, the situation happened at nachos and she did what she felt was necessary and stepped down from her admin position there.

When things got crazy my account with many others were banned. Since that time my account and others have been reinstated. I have been back to nachos, looking to see what was going on, but not taking part in any discussions. I haven't spoken to saint in a couple of weeks, last time we talked it was about his new apple power book and how much he was enjoying it. To be fair, I haven't tried to contact him and he didn't try and contact me to find out what was going on. I would have liked to hear from him before he had banned me, but water under the bridge at this point. Time to move on... it happened and it is done with.

Where FoS is headed:
That is up to all of you. This board is in the hands of it's users.
I maintain the site, add features, make sure it is up etc, but beyond that, the Administrators are the ones that run this place. These are people that you know and trust, if there is indecision I will step in and be a "tie breaker". I don't/won't discourage anyone from visiting nachos, I plan on visiting to read Spooky's forum myself, but I doubt I will participate much if at all. There has been some concerns in the past about privacy, while you should keep in mind that this is the internet and nothing is 100% private, we have gone to great lengths to ensure that admins don't have the ability to read your private forums or messages. There is only one super admin account, and it is used only for board admin functions.

I believe in FoS and the people here, I think there are some cool things available here to make this an interesting place, and I have many more things coming. I hope you agree. I encourage you all to post suggestions on what would make this a better site in the suggestions forum, however please check to make sure someone else didn't post it already.

Please keep in mind that this board was never intended to be what it has turned into, while we are all happy at the success it has had and want it to continue, we started off being behind and are trying to catch up as quickly as possible, so please bare with us.


Questions and Answers:
Q: Donations, hardware, do you need anything?
A: Not at this time, and I don't for see asking for donations or placing adds on the main page. All I ask of you is to abide by the rules of the board. I am very fortunate to be able to provide this site with out cost to you and I don't anticipate that changing. I greatly appreciated all the offers that people have made.

Q: I want forum X like we had at nachos, can you add it.
A: Maybe, but this is NOT nachos, we will add forums where we think there is enough interest, but not all forums will be added.

Q: How about a P&G forum?
A: All joking aside, this is not going to happen.

Q: Will there be a Team FoS?
A: Not sure, as far as I am concerned,FoS is now an community, if there is a team to be formed, using FOS is a possibility. FoS is a gaming community first and foremost.

Q: Who are the Admins then?
A: There will be a post coming soon that will explain who they are and how the board works.

Q: This red theme sucks, my eyes are burning.
A: I know already There will be new themes coming, but there are lots of modifications I have to do to them to make them work, they are getting closer, just hang tight.

Q: Will you ever shut up?
A: Yep, this is the end.

Further to your answer about X forum at Nachos....

Nachos is back up, so if you like said X forum, you can still post there, from what I gather here, you are not trying to duplicate it.

Some forums like the photography and tech sights are duplicates, but this was done because at the time it looked like Nachos was dead.

Thanks for bringing that up Metal, hadn't thought about those, but I should address them. Also nachos is up, but some poeple are still banned or don't desire to return to nachos, these are for them as well.

Tech - you can't have gamers with out technology - so it just fits for the board.

Art & Photography - I enjoy photography and at some point will post some picutres, but in addition to being of personal interested I felt with the addition of the gallery that would further enhance the forum.

These forums were also requested by the new members of FoS and not by the administration team....

I understand, but we were asking for them I am sure because we all thought Nachos was long but dead. If FOS was to be what was initially intended, a private forum for a few clans, these likely would never have been asked for. That is all i was getting at.
