I'm working on the companion review of sorts to this one right now. It will focus on the motherboard I used during my testing and I'll give a good look at it. Expect sub system testing (memory, onboard NIC and audio, etc) and also complete guides through the BIOS.

I can say right now, motherboard reviews are much more time consuming than a processor review. With a processor you throw it in and run some benchmarks, double check results, and compare. With a motherboard subsystem testing is a long process, and being subjective about BIOS layout and motherboard layout can be very hard.

well one thing i would like to see is the differences you will see in your system with:
1) e6300 with ddr1
2) e6300 with ddr2
3) amd x64 2800+

all on the same review .... just to make things more interesting.....
didnt you get the board that has both ddr and ddr2 support?

Would be pointless, the use of DDR2 does not change performance beyond what could be considered test error.

Lower voltages, possible improvement when moving to Quad core (hard to say really), and who else knows! Anandtech has done a series of articles showing the difference between DDR-333, DDR-400, DDR2-533, and DDR2-667. You know what? The only memory to not performan within the error spec (for 95% of testing) was the DDR-333, and even then it was not much off.

I'm sure there are various reasons for DDR2, but just look at how long it took AMD to go DDR2 (note: Not before it was economically cheaper than DDR).
