Hmm, Fileshack is always great for me, I get a 150Kbps download from them, fastest of any site I've ever tried, though I am a subscriber to them.

I played the demo for about 10 minutes just a bit ago and right away I'm having mixed feelings.

The story is seeming like it'd be a really strong and interesting story, mixing SWAT like forces against ghosts/evil sprites kinda thing.

But the games feels sluggish. Mainly the mouse and crosshair to anyway. I dont feel like I have ease of control over my aim. Also, the assault rifle you have has to much recoil and fires more than 1 bullet even with just the slighest mouse tap, I dont like that.

The game is very pretty, and enough to bring my FPS way down (30s) at some points and I'm running a pretty hardcore computer. I'd say it looks like a nice mix between the good texture quality of Half Life 2 and the clay like models of Doom 3, with the ability to jack up a lot of details and some amazing shadows.

The physics are also good, but not near what Half Life 2 has.

I think I'll give it a bit more tries before I decide on how I fully feel about it.

Its a modded Doom 3 engine, and Im d/ling at like 25kb/s ove bittorrent from a link on their website.

And I think Havoks the most impressive engine to date.

But there are 2 games I want more:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadows of Cherynoble
and
Prey

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! This game, FREAKY AS HELL!!!!!!!!

Also, Fox, Havok is simply a physics engine. Its in HL2, intergrated at the code level, that's why HL2 has such better physics than any other game, it was built around Havok.

This game, the AI is simply the best ANYWHERE! No other game comes close, and you can tell right away too. Enemies will crawl under things to get to you, jump over stuff, take cover smartly. Its all there and done well, just awesome.

As for STALKER. Meh, they pushed it back to around a April 2006 release, this game has been in rumors for 2 and a half years now and missed more release dates than HL2 even. I've played about 20 builds of it, not that impressive.

Game really impressed me second time around once I had gotten my settings right finally. A system killer, much harder on my computer than Doom 3 or HL2 was, I can run both of those max settings no problems, but I had to settle with a Max/High mix on this game.

Anyway, the AI is really impressive. The graphics, really impressive. The sound, extremely impressive. The effects, really impressive. It all creates one hell of an experience that will scare the crap out of you at certain moments. Really kept me jumpy for the most part and really got me drawn into it.

Once you get everything set the way you want, it'll really come together and show its true colors.

I uninstalled this after 2 minutes of "playing" because I turned a corner and it played a loud noise and scary music. I didn't see a bad guy or anything... just too afraid to play it haha

GameSpot:
F.E.A.R. started out as a visually impressive game, and the longer it's been in development, the better-looking it's gotten. The game makes use of all the next-generation graphical effects you'd expect in a modern first-person shooter, things like normal and bump mapping, and pronounced specular highlights. As mentioned, the character models are also extremely high-detail from a geometry perspective, and the overall aesthetic is grittily consistent.

Judging by the number of "holy crap" moments we experienced during just 20 minutes or so of F.E.A.R., we're certainly looking forward to finding out if the full game can maintain this demo's breakneck pace. The game's high-intensity combat and sinister story elements have piqued our interest in equal measure, and given Monolith's winning track record, we have no reason to believe they'll let us down. Stay tuned for more on F.E.A.R. as its release date approaches.

Sounds good. .. going to have to grab it.
So many games seem to be coming around all of a sudden

Chem, believe me I know what havok is. I've messed around with the source engine. I never said most impressive graphics engine, did I? I just love the engine. It adds a lot to the game.
And as for stalker, I know that too lol. Its bothered me enough, but with Prey and HL2 Aftermath for the PC, as well as Okami to hold me over, I'll be patient for Stalker. Its the freedom I want.

Are you not looking forward to the Unreal 3 engine? It certainly will probably be the most impressive for a long time now. It will have just as good physics as the Source engine, and look far better than anything currently out. Plus it'll support multi threading and several other things that no one else has.

Stalker had me really looking forward to it a long time ago. But after all these delays I'm really having my doubts. I believe basically all of their issues have come from the life system, not surprising. What I heard was that it was basically creating a experience that while real, was not fun to play. So they've had to do a lot of adjusting and tweaking. I think right now they are basically upgrading the graphics again so it doesnt look dated do to its late release.

Prey, meh. Nothing to impressive to me, just seems like another run and gun FPS. Nothing new to it really.

Aftermath, I have my hopes it'll be out soon, I'll grab it, I loved the HL2 SP. I think they've moved its release back to November though.

Anyway, I hope F.E.A.R. will at least inspire some people to create good AI. This game has easily the best I've ever seen. Some pretty insane stuff even in this rather short demo. Enemies, once they have spotted you, take cover, lean around corners, go over objects and correctly use their changing world around to help them.

I also think the scripting in this game is top notch. Some events are really well timed and even playing over them a few time really get you still. Very spooky stuff here, and some of the particle effects are pretty damn cool.

I only have two knocks on this game. Sub par performance, the code is pretty loose it seems and is delievering lower than what it should be performance even on top of the line systems. Also, the guns have to much spread IMO, though some may like it.

Other than that I think this game will create a awesome astmosphere, with great AI, and very well thought out triggers and scripts that really get to the player and bring him into the games world.
