iRobot

I bought my first robot, the iRobot Roomba robot vacuum (I never imagined ever actually owning a robot). I'm surprised how well it works; it gets underneath furniture we could never get into with our old vacuum. And it seems to have some sophisticate software running it, if it gets stuck it runs some escape procedures and then continues on its way, if it detects dirt or something it circles it until it all gone, and can detect stairs so it won't fall down them and if its in range to the base station when it needs recharging it heads back and docks itself --pretty cool. basically we just let it run while we're out of the house and it does its thing. Best of all the girlfriend is happy

I'm surprised how well it picks, it has some trouble with the corners (to be expected) but does very well everywhere else.

Sounds very handy.

Does it just work on carpet or on something else like hardwood floors also?

I can see this as a cool way to keep the floors clean between real vacuuming.
