Any Wine drinkers here?

Just picked up a bottle of this for an occasion.

http://www.diwinetaste.com/english/W...m.php?wd=00818

I can't wait to try it. Normally I don't spend this kind of coin on a bottle so it'll be interesting to compare it to the more moderately priced Valpolicella (usually Masi) I've tried in the past. For a dessert wine I picked out the Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Old Tawny, yummy!

A combination of white wine and cranberry? Hmm....ok... Somehow I think you'd miss the nuances of a nice bottle of nice bottle of chateauneuf de pape Ah well if you like it to each their own, not something I'd look at picking up though.

Hint to anyone who anyone who does drink wine here DO NOT over decant chateauneuf, almost ruined an $80 dollar bottle of the stuff once!

On the other hand the Valpolicella I'm serving with dinner tomorrow will most likely need at least an hour in the decanter. According to the wine consultant it's a very big wine that requires good aeration, in other words the wine needs time to breath. Bold brass wines are my favourite and I'm really looking forward to this one.

The Taylor Fladgate port is also going to be great! I've had the 10 year tawny but have never been able to justify the steep price of the 20 year (70 bucks). Serving that with a warm chocolate cake.

Usually we go to a dinner and a play on her birthday but this year we're doing the wine and I'm cooking dinner. Works out a little cheaper I'm making palak saag, allo mattar, and chicken tikka masala served with mango chutney and naan . I'll have to pick up the naan, obviously don't have a tandoor oven at home.

Wow that was a lot of writing! I'm not sure if anyone is interested in any of this, but sometimes I think of this place as my own blog

You'll want to drink that soon Blong. Aging is not going to do anything for that wine and may well adversely affect it. I doubt it's that expensive though so if you wind up tossing it, oh well.

I've always found that wine helps in a relationship. A nice wine over dinner is a good conversation piece, helps you both relax and enhances a good meal. Beer is for a night out with the guys or watching sports, for romance it's always wine. Wine is all about the enjoyment and not about getting drunk. I know that when I'm with a woman the LAST thing I want is to be drunk. Any guy that reads this I'm sure agrees with me

A well paired wine with the food makes the food taste better and enhances the nuances of the wine. Red wine (in moderation) is also very healthy and picking out the tasting notes is a lot of fun.

I generally don't drink sweet wines but I love port, especially with tiramisu or a good chocolate cake. I hope this one works out well for you! I usually by port by the glass just because it's a little easier on the wallet that way!

In general, I prefer a nice rich red. Cabernet Sauvs, Merlots, Shiraz, etc. It's a great conversation enhancer but you're right about getting drunk in front of the ladies! I have enough problems being smooth when my brain is working at full capacity!

Sorry Harb, wine doesn't do it for me. I like my beer, but am working more on vodka and rum these days (was playing around with some nice single malt scotch tonight, think I might get used to that )

I have similar tastes to you Clyde. Generally prefer the Cabs, Shiraz and Bordeaux. With a curry though you need a big wine and Valpolicella fits the bill.

The Tawny Port though I'm sooooo looking forward to! I love port and like you usually buy by he glass because of price. This time I went all out though. I'll let you know how it works out.

I like a good single malt too Dutch. I'll always have one at home but very rarely drink it. I find it hits me too hard and hard liquor is a hangover waiting to happen for me

the other nice thing about wine is there are so many! From my experience there are only so many single malt scotches out there. Anyone here that knows my last name knows my heritage is Irish, so I tend to stick to those.
