lol and sigh all at the same time
Ok, some of you might know I'm moving in to a new place. It aint cheap and very upscale. Anyway, I was supposed to have it June 1st and it would be all done according to them. Well..... not so much. Below is the letter I submitted today. What would you do?
June 7, 2005
To whom it may concern,
This is just to inform you that as the leaseholder of XX generic Unit XXXX I am very disappointed with the progress on my unit. I handed a certified check over for the amount of $a lot and was told in no uncertain terms that my Unit would be ready for move in June 1st.
Well as it turns out this is far from the truth. When I looked at the unit on the first it was filthy. An example of this there was very dirty water filing the bath tub. I was told that this is a normal practice. As a result of the dirty water my new bathtub is permanently stained. I also notice toilet paper in the unit leading me to believe that my unit was being used as the public toilet. Please see the attached photo sheet for evidence that it is still being used! If they are going to use it can they at least give me the common courtesy of flushing? My fridge is also being used to store food and I can guarantee you that it is not my purse in the kitchen. I would also like to point out that I work across the street and would love to able to use my apartment.
Needless to say I am very upset by all this and am amazed I am paying for a place I can?t live in but is a great washroom/kitchen for the site workers. I will also point out that I am currently paying for the hydro on the suite as well.
I would greatly appreciate prompt attention be given to my concerns. Honestly I am very inconvenienced by all this an at this point have no idea when I will be able to move in. Judging from the condition of the suite I highly doubt it will be finished any time soon.
I would expect that my first months rent be prorated for the date my suite is ready or we just say I move in July 1st and don?t pay rent until October 1st. Please contact me ASAP so we may rectify this situation.

GO get um Harb, there is no excuse for that stuff, unless it one of us leaving you a present in your new bathroom. IF your paying for it you should be living in it.

Lol well seeing as the place is in the King street west district of downtown Toronto, Canada that's hardly a surprise is it?

I knew that.
Take lots of pictures (make sure the pics get a date stamp, get a witness to tour the place. Get all your ducks in a row so you win when we see you on the People's Court (or one of the knockoffs). I'll even tape it if you let me know when it airs. Good luck!
Actually they'll probably be more than fair about the whole thing, give you all your money back minus the hydro and tell you to hit the trail. Better read your contract.

Yeah we'll see Barney. I doubt they'll tell me to hit the trail as they are trying to fill the building. It had a 2 months free bonus and I know they ran 3 months free for a day. So, all I'm asking for is I move in july 1 and my 2 free months start from there. According to the very stringent rental laws here in Canada they can't tell me to hit the road and I am very well protected as a renter. For around $1400 a month I expect better.

Sorry Harb, I'll stop trying to cheer you up (maybe) and be serious for a moment. I'm sure that the management is just as concerned as you are about the situation and will take care of you. It's my understanding that contractors face some pretty stiff penalties (settle down now ) when they don't meet their deadline.
$1400?? Must resist, muuussstttt rrreeessssiiiissssssssssssssttttttttt....
Hopefully it'll work out ok for you Harb. (need fingers crossed smiley thingee)

I had a much better post done up but I clicked on the post reply button instead of the submit button and now it's lost to the void so you get the abbreviated version.

lmao Barney yeah I've done that too. Yes it's steep rent but it is in the hotest part of Toronto to live in now and when they finish it truly is a luxury residence. There is a spa on site if that's any indication. I have one of the cheaper 1 bdrm+study they have. Toronto is very expensive especially in my area (think Manhatten here but a tad less) so it's not so bad and I am paid accordingly. I HATE commuting and when you weigh out the cost of it and my not having to buy lunches, put my dog in daycare because I don't know when I'll get home sometimes it works out pretty well. This place is less than a 1 minute walk to work and that's if I have to wait for the elevator.
