Painted my valve cover

well since there is no automobile forum, i'll post here!

as some of you know im rebuilding an engine to drop in a crx...well im waiting for parts to come and i have no car yet, so i cant really do anything with it atm and i got bored. so yesterday i decided to paint the valve cover

after a small test to see if paint stripper would work...the front of the cover was peeling already, we stripped the top a little just to see if it'd work, looks like crap

this is after stripping

after i stripped it i was trying to decide between attempting to polish the honda emblems or just shave them off...since i had nothing better to do yesterday, i opted to polish. after three hours, this is what it looked like

and here is the almost final product, set it outside under the sun so it'll dry and then i'll clean up around the honda emblems where the paint looks kinda bad

im fairly happy with the result, i think i didnt do enough coats of paint though. from pics i saw online from people that did it, it didnt look as wrinkly as mine does, but more of bumpy type thing, like what the stock valve cover has on it. but it looks 10x better than what it did

looks pretty sweet man.... just hope your crx isn't green or dark blue or something...red would be an ugly acccent color in your engine bay.

lol, i wouldnt think red would look that bad with a dark green/blue. but as long as i get a stock one red will go with it. theres only like 3 or 4 stock si colors and they'll go with red fine. and im most likely going to have to paint it anyway as most of these things have rust for the price im looking at

called wrinkle paint, lol. didnt know they made such a thing, but i read on some honda forums about someone that sells shaved honda covers and he did a write-up on how to do it. just went to advanced, autozone and pep boys to find the paint...two advanced stores and pep boys only had black and finally found the red at autozone.

and why would it be hard to clean? the engine degreaser stuff works fine, spray that on and hose it off. at least, i hope i can use the degreaser on that paint, lol. its weird, i painted it last night and it was sitting in the sun all day today but its still soft. the wrinkles still move. it says to let it dry for 2 days, i guess they wernt kidding
