They had one near me when I lived in Irvine, CA. It was an alright store... trust me.. Fry's Electronics - their crappy website ( www.outpost.com) - is WAY better and reasonably priced compared to MicroCenter.

Would you buy from here instead of Newegg? I guess what I'm asking is: are prices better here or on Newegg

I have not been to a Fry's, they dont have one of those in Nebraska either. As far as where I would by, if I was buying online I would use price and reputation. I just mentioned that this was a nice store for the build it yourselfer as they had everything instock and if something doesn't work you can take it back now and get the right one. I would still shop around to make sure I got the best price, but I would pay a little more to get something now instead of having to wait for shipping. The store had some real good prices, got a 1 GB pin drive for $16. The 24" Acer widescreen monitor for $800 was pretty sweet to .

We had 2 microcenters here, 1 of them closed, now we just have 1 big one, and it sounds like the one in Texas is much better then what we have here. The prices are way out of range and the people in store are idiots for the most part.

They do have a few good things going for them, one their returns, they have sections/tables of returned items that are marked way down, and come with a store 30 day warranty that you can bring back no questions asked and still have the full manufacturer warranty. I have gotten a few good deals on returned stuff, saved several hundred on a couple of macs, brand new, never opened, in box and marked down $200. Good stuff.

I do like Fry's the few times I have been there (when I was out east) their b&m is probably the best I have seen, the best on the web goes to Newegg followed by ZipZoomFly.

And the microcenter website is horrid.

Nope, I was speaking to pure retail stores that you can step foot into.

Online only stores blow retail stores out of the water on pricing(generally speaking).

Fry's pricing, in store at least was generally $10 or so more than a newegg. I mainly went to frys when I lost a component that I needed to replace quick. I built a few of my machines purely from parts out of Fry's. Fry's doesn't rip you off, but you have to make sure you're buying a new item. They put returned items back on the shelf... and they have a pretty open return policy. THey took back a mobo that I fried when OC'ing it.
