I've changed jobs. No longer dealing with silly Desktop issues. Now I get to deal with silly email issues. OMG the sky is falling the sky is falling I cant read my email!!!
You know there are days I think I should just go help the needy. There are people starving in this world and I will get the 3rd degree because an email server had a 5 minute outage. Guess what the failover box is for!!!! Man they make it sound like the world is ending when that happens....

I do like my job however..... working from home, sure on call sucks but I never have to leave the house.
Being able to see my kids all day is a plus.. but I still have an office to run off to if I need to get away.

i'm a "systems software specialist" for a major medical center/university. basically, i'm supposed to be a programmer, but in actuality i am a programmer/tier 4 support/sms admin/hardware - software integrator/active directory - network - security guy/finder - fixer of other peoples problems...

oh yeah, forgot to mention the team i work with is great. we're all friends. we go over to each others houses to hang out. at one point, the whole team was playing wow together (including our supervisor). a good number of us have kicked the wow habit, bought xbox's and we're all playing the various games together.

I am a developer for a Food and Pharmaceutical Software Business. Up until 4 years ago I was a Contractor for IT Development and really loved the job as it always took me to a new company or location but now I just like being in one location and doing the same thing. For now. A good friend of mine brought me on board here (Retalix is the Company name). He soon took over as Director for the area I worked in and it was great the two of us working together. He moved to a different job now and really wanted me to take his position over but I refused. I had seen how the job changed him with all the stress and political hub bub within a large corporation. I am pretty happy doing 8-5 with as metal said... no overtime and no stress. I do like my job alot. Being a senior on the floor people don't really mess with me anyway. We do development on the ISeries (AS400).

We have a ton of customers... to many to list anyway and this link is only a partial list but if your interested... here it is. Customers - Supply chain management software, Grocery Software, Foodservice Software, Convenience Software and Fuel Software :: Retalix Ltd.

MA, it's funny you talk about the sniper bit in the service. When I went into the marines they wanted me to be a sniper really bad. I was contracted into aircraft maintenance but they tried many ways to get me out of that but wasn't a go. I actually was entertaining the idea. Always wondered what would have happened if I had become a sniper.

DBABE.... I agree. Barney's Job would be the shiznits......

I guess this is my chance to post here as well since I was feeling nostalgic and wandered by. I work as an Enterprise Architect doing consulting to the IRS. Now theres an environment that could use some help. The work is OK and the commute rocks since it is 10-15 minutes instead of the hour plus I used to spend going out to Virginie.

Speaking of midlife crisis. My wife's minivan will be paid off in a year and I will turn 40 around the same time. Any recommendations for the mid-life crisis car. I had been looking at the Honda convertible and the Pontiac Solstice but am open to other reasonable suggestions in the 20 to 35K price range.
