heh just re-read what i was doing back then. changed now...
worked an internship at GE Energy over the summer. got stuck in IT even though i talked to the interviewer about hardware design the whole time. worked out though because i got to talk with the people that i should have been working for. they gave me a couple small C# projects, had to learn C# on the job and everything, which was pretty cool.
after that i took fall semester off to do another co-op at Flowserve in lynchburg, va. the company as a whole does industrial piping, like power plant/refinery cooling, oil, etc type stuff. i was in the the flow control division, which does actuators. i got to do embedded software for the mainboard of the actuators and they offered me a part-time position while i'm at school for spring semester. so i'll be finishing up my computer engineering degree at tech and working remotely for flowserve come mid-january.
got a job offer from GE last month that i took. i start there in june after i take a trip to france to see the 24 hours of le'mans. going to be helping design the firmware for the controls of GE gas, wind, and steam turbines.
so yeah, fun times

LOL it was fun rereading all these old posts. Including my own!
I'm operations manager at a different cement plant now, same company.
Meaning, like Dbabe said, I now have more to put up with.

lol, this is an old thread.
I moved to Reno, NV since my original post. I work for a medium sized international company(~6,500 users), we are the number 1 gaming machine manufacture in the world. If you've gambled at some point on the slots, video poker, you probably have used our machines and technologies.
Anyways, I'm the Messaging Administrator(Email, Blackberry, IM, & Email Archiving) and my other primary responsibility is spec'ing and designing our server solutions using the best Server hardware platform out there, HP, for all of our Corporate projects. My position is part of the networks team, so I also chip in on the VoIP, WAN, and LAN tasks as well.

It's nice to see this old thread again
BTW, Cheese -- the company I work for sells lots of our industrial pumps to Flowserve.
My position has not changed. But it appears that 2008 will bring major changes to our company, because of corporate level changes to improve the stocks. They are going to merge (although they will not use the term "merge" instead they say they are leveraging synchronicity and integrating product lines) what were independantly run companies within the corporation into "product groups". The corporation which owns all the different sub companies is a Fortune 500 level corporation.
Basically many of my long term co-workers in management type jobs will probably be gone this year. They will be termed "low hanging fruit". So anyone with duplicate jobs at companies within the new product group will be gone -- no need for CEOs, CFOs, IT Directors, Comptrollers, Controllers, VPs of Sales / Marketing / Operations when there are the same positions are now located at the new product group level. I'm so glad I did not move up to IT Director the times I was asked!
But if it eventually does get down to my level in the hunt for low hanging fruit, I'll be looking for a job out in the southwest where the weather is much dryer

Good luck with the merger, err I mean the "right sizing" of the company Smiley.
My job is pretty much the same except I now have the word senior in front of network administrator. I guess that just means I'm getting older
