An inside source at Hewlett-Packard Co. said on Friday that the deal to buy Dell, Inc. was about to be finalized. The terms are undisclosed at this time however the deal is expected to be a multi-billion dollar stock buy back. The move will boost HP into complete dominance in the pre-built home market for low to mid priced personal computers. According to the source the Dell business units that encompass servers, storage and networking technology would be downsized into the existing HP counterparts.
In further shocking information the source all so stated that HP will no longer be selling Windows Vista preloaded on personal computers and would not be offering it as an upgrade option. Also, in what can only be considered an attempt to further stick it to the software giant, stated that multiple flavors of Linux would be offered at no cost with a free year of support thrown in. The rumored Linux distributions are Debian, Ubuntu and Fedora.
