True enough. However, the word was not chosen, redefined, and used in a vacuum. Its etymology is from "giblet."
I also agree that the dictionary is not necessarily the last word. The pussies that compile dictionaries for sure would look at this discussion and say "based upon common usage, either pronunciation is correct." However, their cowardice in saying this is based not upon correct English, but their fear of getting a flak grenade to the head.

In this case, a well founded fear.
