Both would do fine, x1800 or 1950. Ati is always good. Even the 9800 with a good system still rocks. one of the best series they ever made.

My 9800 works ok, just looking to improve the graphics a little, going to build a new box next spring and the old box goes to the kids

I upgraded from the 9800 Pro to the X1800XT earlier this year and I agree, the 9800 is a great card, but it was starting to take a long time loading some games. My son still uses it and so far no problems with any of the games he plays.

Improve your graphics a little? I have a PCIe X800XL if you want to buy it.

About the best you're going to be able to do with an AGP slot right now is this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143046
It'll play current games decently, tons better than your 9800 Pro.

The X1600 Pro is really not much of an upgrade at all, it'll give you SM3.0 but that's about it and a small speed upgrade.

Yeah, but Chem that card is made by those other guys.
But then as MA stated, this system will eventually be kid-bound. No sense putting more money into it than is necessary. There'll be a new snazzy superduper 'puter next year that'll need all those extra bucks.

Nvidia is good except for filtering (exclude the Geforce 8 series, which has the best image quality you can buy right now).

ok, Chem...serious question
RADEON X1950 PRO http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.... 157068455153
BFG Tech BFGR78256GSOC GeForce 7800GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card
which one???
MY x850xt kicks ***, but w/o shader 3 I'm losing out on my splinter cell series now. And I don't see me dropping 2K for a new sysytem anytime soon.
